Richmond Council gives a high priority to ‘green’ and sustainable development. The Core Strategy (adopted by the Council in April 2009) makes reference to a number of criteria for the promotion and enhancement of the Borough through green and sustainable development. The promotion of a hydro power scheme on the Thames exactly meets the criteria set out in this document. Therefore, installation of our scheme on the Thames at Teddington Weir aligns with the Council’s priorities with regard to sustainability, renewable energy and climate change. For example, within the Core Strategy, there is a thread of the need for a sustainable future with the aspiration is for ‘energy use minimised and renewable energy maximised’.
